Red Sox Lands Major International Deal: Output Sports

Output Sports, an Irish sports technology firm, has unveiled plans for its expansion into the US market. The company, which originated from University College Dublin (UCD) and is supported by Enterprise Ireland, aims to forge partnerships with the Boston Red Sox baseball team as part of its venture into Massachusetts.

The announcement was made during a meeting with Taoiseach Leo Varadkar at Fenway Park, where the Boston Red Sox play, as part of Varadkar’s visit to the US for St. Patrick’s Day festivities.

The company’s range of products empowers strength and conditioning coaches, sports scientists, and rehabilitation professionals to comprehensively assess and enhance athlete performance through a unified wearable sensor system.

Currently utilized in over 30 countries and various sports, including within the US, Output Sports unveiled its V2 product in late 2022, resulting in substantial growth in the US market with over 300 new clients.

To bolster its presence in the US, Output Sports has established a new office in Boston, with co-founder and CEO Dr. Martin O’Reilly relocating from Ireland to spearhead the company’s US growth efforts. Additionally, former Leinster and Ireland rugby player Adam Byrne has been appointed as Output Sports’ Commercial Manager for North America.

Dr. O’Reilly noted the remarkable growth in the US market since the launch of their V2 product, expressing enthusiasm for the company’s intensified focus on seizing opportunities in the US.

Founded in 2018 at NovaUCD in Dublin by Dr. Martin O’Reilly, Dr. Darragh Whelan, Julian Eberle, and Professor Brian Caulfield, Output Sports emerged as a spin-out from the UCD School of Public Health, Physiotherapy, and Sports Science, and the Insight SFI Research Centre for Data Analytics following support from Enterprise Ireland’s Commercialisation Funding.
