Atlanta Braves supporters can breathe a sigh of relief regarding the condition of Ronald Acuña Jr. The team disclosed on Tuesday that Acuña, the reigning NL MVP, recently consulted with Dr. Neal ElAttrache, who confirmed that Acuña is experiencing irritation in the meniscus of his right knee. Acuña is now slated to gradually ramp up his baseball activities and is anticipated to be prepared for the Opening Day on March 28, according to the team.
Acuña himself confirmed the news on Tuesday, expressing that he is feeling well and even engaging in light-hearted banter with reporters regarding his knee.
The recent scratch of Acuña from a spring game due to knee soreness prompted further examination, which uncovered the meniscus irritation. Of particular concern is that this irritation occurs in the same knee where Acuña previously endured a torn ACL, causing him to miss the entirety of the 2021 season.

However, the positive aspect is that Acuña’s condition is not more severe. Although the meniscus irritation may necessitate ongoing management throughout the year, especially given his reliance on speed on the basepaths and agility in the outfield, the Braves can breathe easier knowing that one less concern adds to their roster filled with injury risks.
