The Boston Red Sox announced on Wednesday the passing of Stacy Wakefield, wife of former Red Sox pitcher Tim Wakefield, following her battle with pancreatic cancer.
In a statement, the family expressed deep sorrow, sharing that Stacy, cherished as a mother, daughter, sister, niece, and aunt, passed away at her Massachusetts home. They noted that she was surrounded by loved ones, caretakers, and nurses, and described the loss as devastating, particularly in the wake of Tim’s passing less than five months earlier.
Tim, renowned for his 17-season career with the Red Sox from 1995 to 2011, during which he contributed to two World Series victories, succumbed to brain cancer on October 1st, experiencing a seizure after cancer-related surgery.
Married in 2002, the couple leaves behind their children, Trevor and Brianna.
In their statement, the family remembered Stacy as a resilient, loving, thoughtful, and approachable individual, expressing gratitude for the privilege of having her in their lives and finding solace in the belief that she had been reunited with Tim, her soulmate.
The statement extended appreciation to Stacy’s medical team for their exceptional care and support throughout her illness and thanked well-wishers for their kindness during this difficult time.
