Juan Soto has added his voice to those urging the New York Yankees to make a significant move, suggesting the pursuit of pitcher Blake Snell and expressing enthusiasm about pairing him with Gerrit Cole at the forefront of the team’s rotation. While Soto lacks insider information regarding Snell’s potential move, he is fully supportive of the idea.
“It would be incredible to have two Cy Young winners leading our rotation. It would be fantastic,” Soto told Jon Heyman of the New York Post. “He’s a great guy, a great player. Any help that we can get I would love. I know if he’s coming over, he’s going to make a big impact on the team. It’s always beneficial to have exceptional talent on the team. I would never oppose it. So, I think it’s a perfect fit for him.”
However, the stumbling block for the Yankees in pursuing Snell lies primarily in financial considerations. The reigning NL Cy Young winner has been seeking a substantial contract throughout the offseason, and the Yankees, already facing financial constraints due to luxury tax implications, are hesitant to meet his demands. While they have not publicly ruled out the possibility, reports indicate that a significant change would be required for them to commit to such a financial investment.
Snell and Soto previously played together for a season and a half in San Diego. Snell’s standout performance came in the 2023 season when he led the league with a remarkable 2.25 ERA.
