In the 2023 NFL regular season, a collective group of 18 alumni from the University of Alabama managed to accumulate a total of 106 touchdowns, surpassing any other group from the same college program by a significant margin. This was followed by a group of 13 alumni from the University of Oklahoma, who combined to score 65 touchdowns during the same season.
Reflecting on the 2010 NFL regular season, only one player from Alabama, running back Kenneth Darby, scored a touchdown, managing to find the end zone three times while playing for the St. Louis Rams. However, since then, Alabama’s NFL touchdown production has been on a steady rise, notably spiking in 2018 when 12 alumni scored a total of 71 touchdowns, breaking the school’s previous record set in the preceding season when 11 former Crimson Tide players collectively scored 45 touchdowns.
This trend continued with 20 Alabama alumni scoring 85 touchdowns in 2019, followed by 83 touchdowns in 2020, 96 touchdowns in 2021, and 100 touchdowns in 2022. Remarkably, due to Darby’s touchdowns in 2010, former Alabama players have managed to score touchdowns in every NFL season since 1975.
In the 2023 NFL season, three former Alabama players stood out by scoring at least 10 touchdowns each: Jalen Hurts with 15 touchdowns, Derrick Henry with 12 touchdowns, and Jahmyr Gibbs with 11 touchdowns. Additionally, numerous other Alabama alumni contributed touchdowns during the season, including Jerome Ford, Brian Robinson, Najee Harris, Calvin Ridley, DeVonta Smith, Josh Jacobs, Amari Cooper, Jaylen Waddle, Julio Jones, Jameson Williams, Jerry Jeudy, Brian Branch, Damien Harris, Ronnie Harrison, and Irv Smith Jr.
Five other Alabama colleges also had alumni scoring touchdowns in the 2023 season. Notably, Auburn had four alumni account for eight touchdowns, while West Alabama alumnus Tyreek Hill scored 13 touchdowns as a Miami Dolphins wide receiver. Additionally, former Alabama A&M player Tank Dell and UAB and South Alabama alumnus Gerald Everett contributed touchdowns for the Houston Texans and Los Angeles Chargers, respectively. Former South Alabama wide receiver Jalen Tolbert and former UAB cornerback Darious Williams also scored touchdowns for the Dallas Cowboys and Jacksonville Jaguars, respectively.
