Recently, it was announced that Teddy Bridgewater, a former quarterback for the Minnesota Vikings, would be returning to his high school alma mater to take on the role of head coach for their football team. Another player from the Mike Zimmer era, Sharif Floyd, who was selected by the Minnesota Vikings as the 23rd overall pick in the 2013 NFL Draft, is now reported to be joining the coaching staff of the Washington Commanders. In his new position, Floyd will serve as an assistant defensive line coach under the leadership of the team’s new head coach, Dan Quinn. It’s noteworthy that Quinn and Floyd previously collaborated during the last season with the Dallas Cowboys, where Quinn held the position of defensive coordinator, and Floyd was listed as an assistant defensive line coach/defensive quality control coach.
Interestingly, despite the rumors surrounding Rex Ryan, the Dallas Cowboys ultimately appointed Mike Zimmer as their new defensive coordinator. Despite spending the majority of his playing career under Zimmer in Minnesota, it appears that Floyd’s loyalty lies with Dan Quinn. This loyalty isn’t particularly surprising, as it’s common for coaches to bring their trusted assistants when transitioning to new teams.
The #Commanders are hiring #Cowboys assistant Sharrif Floyd as their assistant DL coach, as the former standout #Vikings DT continues to work his way up. Floyd was with Dan Quinn in Dallas.

Sharrif Floyd’s playing career was cut short due to a botched surgery, making his transition to coaching a positive development. The prospect of Floyd potentially becoming a defensive coordinator in the NFL in the future adds an intriguing layer to his coaching journey. It would certainly be a compelling story if he were to find his way back to the Minnesota Vikings at some point in the next 20 years.
