According to reports, Jefferson has outlined his terms for extending his contract with the Vikings.

Vikings wide receiver Justin Jefferson made headlines when he expressed his desire to secure a lucrative contract extension, aiming to “break the bank” in negotiations, as revealed during an interview with Adam Schein on Sirius XM. However, there seems to be another condition Jefferson may consider before finalizing any deal.

As reported by NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Tom Pelissero, and Mike Garafolo, Jefferson might delay signing his extension until the Vikings clarify their quarterback situation. It’s noted that Jefferson holds a favorable view of quarterback Kirk Cousins and would prefer clarity on the team’s quarterback plans before committing to a long-term contract.

The Vikings are reportedly keen on retaining Cousins, though the impending free agency market for the 36-year-old quarterback is anticipated to be competitive, especially considering his recovery from a season-ending Achilles tendon injury.

In the event the Vikings cannot retain Cousins, they may explore other options, such as pursuing a more economical veteran like Sam Darnold or potentially drafting a quarterback with their No. 11 pick. However, they could still seek a veteran quarterback as a short-term solution.

Additionally, the Vikings must weigh their priorities regarding edge rusher Danielle Hunter, who is also a free agent. Balancing the needs of re-signing Cousins, and Hunter, and extending Jefferson presents a significant challenge for the team.

This offseason emerges as a crucial period for the Vikings as they navigate these complex decisions.
