The Super Bowl matchup posed a challenge for the Las Vegas Raiders, as both the Kansas City Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers are longstanding rivals of the franchise, and now they’re set to play in the Raiders’ Allegiant Stadium as hosts.
New head coach Antonio Pierce expressed his acceptance of the situation, albeit with a caveat that the visiting teams should not overstay their welcome. “I’m glad they get to see it just for a day, then they get the hell out,” Pierce remarked to Heavy Sports on the red carpet for the NFL Honors on February 8.
Pierce didn’t dwell too long on the prospect of the two rival teams dominating Las Vegas for the week, acknowledging that the Raiders’ performance in 2023 could have prevented this scenario. Having only coached the team for nine games, Pierce managed to defeat the Chiefs in Kansas City. Now, as the head coach, he will have more influence over the team’s performance moving forward.
