Legendary Comeback: Green Bay’s Iconic Coach Returns for the 2024 Season in a Breaking News Twist

Green Bay will see a fresh face in the quarterbacks’ meeting room for the upcoming season, with recently retired quarterback Sean Mannion joining the offensive staff. However, a familiar and seasoned figure, long-time quarterbacks coach Tom Clements, who is set to turn 71 in June, will make a return for the 2024 season. Despite Clements being noncommittal about his return late in the previous season, an NFL source confirmed his decision to come back for a third season under coach Matt LaFleur.

Tom Clements expected to return as Packers quarterbacks coach

Clements, known for coaching legends like Brett Favre and Aaron Rodgers, played a crucial role in the development of Jordan Love during his first year as a starter. LaFleur expressed admiration for Clements’ contributions, acknowledging the sacrifices he made in relocating from California to Green Bay.

Meanwhile, the role and title of Mannion within the team remain unclear, but he will be involved in working with the quarterbacks and the Packers’ passing game. Mannion, a former collegiate starter at Oregon State with nine seasons in the league, expressed interest in coaching when his playing career concluded.

On the defensive side, there are notable changes with defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley taking over for Joe Barry. Defensive line coach Jerry Montgomery, who had been with the Packers since 2015, will not return, having interviewed for a position with the New England Patriots. Defensive backs coach Ryan Downard and pass-rushing specialist Jason Rebrovich are set to return under Hafley. However, defensive quality control assistant Justin Hood has joined the Atlanta Falcons as the secondary coach. The rest of the defensive coaching staff, including Kirk Olivadotti, Greg Williams, and Wendel Davis, will continue their roles under Hafley.
